GRAM & JUHL ANNOUNCEMENT

30th March 2009

Integration with Gram & Juhl TCM System

Macom Techologies today announced the integration of their TechAlert 10 Wear Debris Sensor with the Gram & Juhl TCM System.
The TCM System is now able to incorporate data from the Macom TechAlert 10 sensor as standard measurements. The TechAlert 10 detects wear debris in the lubrication oil and provide valuable complementary information to be correlated with the vibration analysis recorded in the TCM® System. As with all standard TCM measurements, the data obtained from TechAlert 10 is tagged with process parameters available in the TCM System.

EARLY DETECTION OF GEARBOX FAILURE

Following on from the installation of multiple Macom TechAlertTM, on-line condition monitoring sensors on a UK wind farm, two turbines were found to have wear related faults leading to the shut down of both turbines. Detailed investigation showed damage to both the High speed generator end inboard bearing and the Planetary gear. The damage and therefore the failure have been caught early enough so as not to cause further damage to the remaining bearings and gearbox with the hope that reconditioning of the
gearbox will suffice rather than a complete replacement.
